Jumpstarting a Car
Notes to self that may helpful to others
Created on November 17, 2019.
Last week I caught into trouble when I’d like to startup my car. It could turn into ignition mode, but fail to start the engine. This is caused by car battery (accu) drain and need to change immediately. But when at emergency situation, changing the battery are not on the top of the list. The best way to get the engine running are by jumpstart it with the another car.
First thing to make sure before do the action are -the requirements-:
- Jumper cable
- Another car with the fresh battery and placed head-to-head.
Then, when the things are ready do:
- Open both car hood.
- Put the jumper (red) on the dead battery positive terminal (+).
- Connect the jumper (red) to healthy battery positive terminal (+).
- Put the jumper (black) to healthy battery negative terminal (-).
- Connect the jumper (black) to dead battery negative terminal (-).
Be careful not to make jumper contacting other steel or electric conducting surface after one side of cable connected to battery. It could trigger sparks and fire. Also make sure that in both car only turn on essentials feature that consume battery, so you must turn off AC and radio when jumpstarting.
Start the healthy car and carry to 3000 rpm, meanwhile start the engine of the dead car while step on the gas pedal. After the car successfully started, remove the cable with steps backward.
